The insight
I was challenged with creating an interactive artefact for exhibition at Greys Wharf in Penryn, the only necessary requirement was that the artefact must communicate a specific point within a data set. I chose reducing food's environmental impacts through producers and consumers by Thomas Nemeck and Joseph Poore. Specifically, I drew from the data sets comparison between major protein sources and their overall environmental impacts to inform my design ideation.

The concept
I created a series of interactive artefacts that allowed visitors to feel the weight of the impact of their food choices by physically lifting up the pieces. The idea being that, at first glance visitors would see approachable and fun appearing food related items. When they then lifted these, they would feel how much lighter of an impact one food group has to another. These artefacts were 3D sculpted by me using CAD, 3D printed, weighted, assembled and finished ready for exhibition. Overall, visitors responded positively to the piece and it provoked a lot of meaningful conversation amougnst the gallery about conscious consumption.
