The problem
Bras are not designed for real bodies and instead a standardized "ideal" that has been damaging for too long. 8 out of 10 women are wearing the incorrect bra size, even many who have been fitted in person as the training is not regulated. The way that these fittings are carried out is not preferrable to the consumers either, with many people opting to not go for a bra fitting due to the intimacy, embarrassment and awkwardness that those I interviewed described. In addition to this, the production of bras is incredibly unsustainable, using a waste material process which creates masses of landfill textile waste.
My solution
Introducing my brand Breasty- The Breasty app contains AI supported scanning software that uses the camera on your phone to pinpoint points across the breast surface. These points register breast shape, breast measurements, strap length and level of support in order to create a tailored bra profile for each individual user. The users unique bra profile is the only piece of data stored and sent to manufacture. This includes a pattern that contains customized elements such as colour, decorative features and of course, the bra measurements. This bra profile is then printed or can also be sent to be 3D woven - where the main bra body is produced in their recycled cotton thread. The zip front closure is then sewn onto the bra and the completed bra piece is packaged and sent off to the customer. This all means that there is minimal waste and environmental impact and a far healthier bra design for your breasts.
